A Farewell,  A Welcome and A New Leadership/Administrator Structure

I’ve been a bit quiet lately with blogging and posting, and I’ve been struggling to be active as a patient advocate for chronic and complex illness.

Why?

Well, our family life has been turned upside down as a result of my husband’s Alzheimers disease diagnosis and my own disease progressing further to a palliative care situation.

We have had to make many difficult decisions over the past month including resigning my long term volunteer role with Arthritis Queensland, my husband has surrendered his drivers license, leaving us completely dependent on carers transporting us anywhere, and I now have carers/nurses visiting 7 days a week.

I realised I had to accept sooner rather than later I can no longer take an active role in Medical Musings with Friends, but there is no way I want to close it.

This global community and all of you who make it a safe, genuine, caring place all mean so much to me. This is my legacy, and I will always do all I can to keep it going. It is an integral part of my book, my life story, this blog, and my podcast. To shut it down would leave too many people without their friends who have become family. They would lose their safe place, their village of others who truly understand them.

A Farewell

Another catalyst to needing to make changes was due to saying farewell to a much loved team member.

We said goodbye to our beautiful Admin…Nik Watson. Nik has not only been an amazing Admin since the beginning, a fellow Aussie, but she is also one of my best friends.

Words are not enough to farewell Nik from her admin role.

We send her loads of MMWF love as we thank her for caring and supporting us all for nearly 8 years. ❤️❤️

A New Leadership Strategy and A New Member

So I put my business organisational change hat on and decided I will be continuing the forum,  but in a Leadership capacity to support the active Admin team. This way, I can ensure our culture of friendship, support, and amazing understanding remains for many years to come, and this allows me to be on the forum in a silent capacity. I will pop in from time to time to say hi as I’m able, which is important to me.

I’m so relieved that MMWF has a new direction that ensures a stable future.

Dave Head, based in Canada, is staying in a new position in the Leadership team as Senior Support Administrator. His role will be mostly in the background, but you’ll see him occasionally posting and commenting if he can.

Shauni De Loose, based in Belgium, is now a Forum Administrator. She is joined by our newest Forum Administrator team member, Lis Bokt, based in the US, and together, they will be running segments, welcoming members, sending birthday greetings and celebrating holidays, etc.

So, please click on the link below and meet the new Leadership/ Admin team under our new structure.

I am very excited about the future of MMWF and so incredibly grateful for my new team, but also all team members who have supported me and my vision over the past 8 years.

Thank you so much for continuing to travel with me on My Medical Musings’ journey.

Love

Sam ❤️❤️
