For some time I’ve really admired people who Vlog. It’s such a great way to interact with followers and convey, in an easy relaxed way, a message which could get lost in the written word of blogging.
It’s also terrifying!
I’ve always been used to Public Speaking throughout my working life. Somehow that was different. I was completely comfortable speaking to large or small groups. I often spoke about Leadership and, while I would always share personal stories within my business presentation, I guess I was able to hide behind my role. I wasn’t just Sam, I was the Executive Manager of the Banking Contact Centre.
Now, I’m just Sam…..chronic illness sufferer. The girl with the rare disease. Everything I share is deeply personal and it makes me feel more vulnerable.
So why do it? Firstly, I always like to challenge myself and push my comfort zone boundaries. Just because I’m medically retired doesn’t mean I can’t still focus on personal development.
Secondly and most importantly, I genuinely want to find ways to connect on a personal level with others struggling with chronic disease. I want to share my support forum with as many people as possible. I want others to experience the amazing support and understanding members provide each other in Medical Musings with Friends.
I will always write articles and blog, as it’s such a passion for me, but I do want to expand the “My Medical Musings” world. I want to reach more people battling chronic illness who may like a variety of ways to interact.
I have shared this vlog on my closed Facebook support forum, Medical Musings with Friends . It’s my second vlog to the members of my forum, but I hope the message is relevant for all my blog readers and the wider chronic illness community.
In this vlog, I am focusing on our carers who are also our loved ones. In particular I’m chatting about how important it is for us, as the care recipient, to show care in return.
I also wrote a blog post on this topic earlier this year called, Caring For The Carer. It provides more tips than I chat about in the vlog if you’d like to read it.
So here goes….my first vlog!!!
