We Have A Theme Song!!

Music has always been such a huge part of my life. As much as I love singing, listening to music has seen me through so many twists and turns of life.

Never more so than when my bone disease descended and my pain levels went through the roof. Listening to music is so much a part of my daily pain management therapy. It really does help.

I love inspirational music, especially gospel, but every now and again, I come across a song in the popular music genre, usually soulful or country, that has a message that manages to encompass just what I needed to feel inspired and motivated to push through.

Jessica Mauboy is an Australian singer, songwriter, and actress. She rose to fame in 2006 on the fourth season of Australian Idol and signed a recording contract with Sony Music Australia. The rest is history for this now global artist.

She has the most amazing voice. While being a coach recently on “The Voice,” she teamed up with Jason Derulo to create this beautiful song, “Give You Love.” Here’s the full lyrics:

If your heart is empty, let me give you love.
If your legs won’t hold you, let me pick you up.
If your hands are shakin’, and you’re barely holdin’ onto your dreams.
When you’re feeling’ low, let me give you love.

Nobody knows how much a dream costs,
The blood and the sweat and the tears that you’ve lost.

Everybody says that you make it look easy,
But baby, I know how hard it was.

So, if your heart is empty, let me give you love.
If your legs won’t hold you, let me pick you up.
If your hands are shakin’, and you’re barely holdin’ onto your dreams.
When you’re feeling’ low, let me give you love.

Everybody knows that the struggle is real (real),
But they don’t know the pain you feel (the pain you feel),

And everybody says that you make it look easy.
But when the road gets rough, let me take the wheel.

So if your heart is empty, let me give you love,
If your legs won’t hold you, let me pick you up.
If your hands are shakin’, and you’re barely holdin’ onto your dreams.
When you’re feeling’ low, let me give you love.

So we keep on keepin” on, keep on keepin” on.
Yeah, we keep on keepin” on, keep on keepin” on.
So we keep on (keep on) keepin” on ‘keep on’), keep on keepin” on.
Yeah, we keep on keepin” on, keep on keepin” on.

So, if your heart is empty, let me give you love.
If your legs won’t hold you, let me pick you up.
If your hands are shakin’, and you’re barely holdin’ onto your dreams.
When you’re feeling’ low, let me give you love.

When you’re feeling’ low, let me give you love’ (give you love).
When you’re feeling’ low, let me give you love.

Medical Musings with Friends Theme Song

The more I listened to the lyrics of this song, the more my thoughts moved from my own story to the stories I hear every day from my forum members.

We all walk slightly different paths, but in general, our experience of pain, our need for support, and a place to find love is what creates a sense of belonging in our precious group.

Give You Love Video

So, I’ve decided that if we were ever to choose a theme song for my FB support group Medical Musings with Friends, this would absolutely be my first choice.

I hope you take the time to read the lyrics and, like me, find the message of being picked up if your legs won’t hold and being given love when your hands are shaking so much you can’t hold onto your dreams, really resonates with you.

I absolutely love the lyrics:

Everybody knows that the struggle is real,
But they don’t know the pain you feel, and everybody says that you make it look easy.
But when the road gets rough, let me take the wheel.”

This epitomises the culture of our forum and the reason we exist. We take the wheel for each other when a member needs it.

I experience this beautiful care and support from members daily and never more so with my husband’s recent Alzeimhers diagnosis and our current severe case of COVID.

So, I hope you don’t mind but I think I’m going to make this our official theme song.

I hope you find yourself turning it on when you need a bit of musical inspiration and to be reminded you are supported by an amazing community of others who truly understand.

Giving you my love…

Sam ❤️

  1. Well i guess it beats my theme song, Neil Young ‘Hey, Hey, My, MY, into the blue’

Rock and roll is here to stay
It’s better to burn out than to fade away
    Hey Hey My My

I suspect you can see why your song is more positive.
